Freddie Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara 5 September 1946 in Zanzibar's Stone Town, died November 24, 1991 in London, was a British artist, best known as the lead singer of the band Queen.
Mercury took his stage name from his own song "My Fairy King", which is on Queen's debut album "Queen". Mercury wrote some of the band's most famous songs, such as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Are the Champions", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Somebody to Love" and "Killer Queen". It was largely thanks to Mercury, Queen became one of the most popular bands in the 1970 -, 1980 - and 1990's. He was considered to have a special stage presence and a profound way to get the audience to sing along. Mercury had a voice that could reach very high octaves and tones that most people could just reach in falsetto. Mercury died of pneumonia associated with the disease AIDS on 24 November 1991.
