Lech Walesa
Lech Walesa, born 29 september 1943 in Popowo, Province Kujawy-Pomerania, is a Polish politician and trade union leader. He was the President of Poland from 22 december 1990 to 22 December 1995. He received the Nobel Peace Prize 1983.

 Wałęsa was shipyard worker and electrician in Gdansk before he ended up as the head of the opposition trade union movement 1980. He was a founder and leader of the Eastern bloc in the first independent trade union organization Solidarność (Solidarity). The movement finally managed to impose Western democracy in Poland in 1989, after decades of authoritarian rule by the Polish United Workers' Party.
